
The total public debt of Moldova in March 2021, in comparison with the previous month, increased by 1 billion 130.3 million lei (+ 1.6%) and reached a new record level of 70 billion 925.3 million lei.
The previous historical maximum of the total public debt of Moldova was 69 billion 795 million lei and was registered at the end of February 2021. In general, since the beginning of 2021, the total public debt of the country increased by 3 billion 104.6 million lei (+ 4.6%). According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the increase in the total public debt in the first 3 months this year was due to the growth of both internal and external public debt, expressed in lei. In particular, the domestic public debt increased by 2 billion 274.3 million lei (+ 7.8%) - from 29 billion 235.6 million lei (at the end of December 2020) to 31 billion 509.9 million lei (at the end of March 2021). At the same time, the external public debt in lei terms for the same period increased by 830.3 million lei (+ 2.2%) - from 38 billion 585.1 million to 39 billion 415.4 million lei. Herewith, the share of the domestic public debt in the total amount of the public debt of Moldova at the end of March 2021 amounted to 44.4% (a month earlier - 44%), and the share of the external public debt - 55.6% (a month earlier - 56%). In general, the share of the total public debt in GDP at the end of March 2021 is estimated at 31.1% versus 32.9% at the end of 2020. Meanwhile, GDP in 2020, according to operational data, amounted to 206.35 billion lei, and by the end of 2021, it is forecasted at the level of 227.7 billion lei. The Ministry of Finance noted that at the end of March 2021, the share of public debt payable within one year amounted to 27.6% of the total, while the Public Debt Management Program in the Medium Term (2021-2023) "Provides parameters of 15-25%. The share of domestic public debt in the total volume of public debt was 44.4% (previously approved parameters: 35-50%), the share of external public debt in a certain currency in the total volume of external public debt at the end of March 2021 was 32.2% (approved parameters: 20-40%). The share of public debt with a variable interest rate in the total volume of public debt at the end of March 2021 amounted to 39.2% with the parameters of 25-40%. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, the total public debt of Moldova in 2020 increased by 15.33 billion lei (+ 29.2%), amounting to 67 billion 820.7 million lei. At the same time, the domestic public debt in 2020 increased by 6 billion 067.4 million lei (+ 26.2%) - from 23 billion 168.2 million lei (at the end of December 2019) to 29 billion 235.6 million lei (at the end of December 2020), and the external public debt in lei terms increased by 9 billion 259 million lei (+ 31.6%) over the same period - from 29 billion 326.1 million to 38 billion 585.1 million lei. // 23.04.2021 — InfoMarket
