Prime Ministers of Romania and Moldova discussed modernization projects and joint goals for the near future
These and other issues on the bilateral and European agenda were discussed at a meeting between Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Romanian counterpart Ilie Bolojan, who paid an official visit to Chisinau. Dorin Recean noted that relations between Moldova and Romania have been built over many years on ties between the people, emphasizing the joint efforts of the two nations to ensure peace, prosperity, and democracy. "In recent years, we have supported each other in the face of difficulties, in the face of foreign interference in our elections, but we have also celebrated each other's successes with equal joy. Romania accompanies us at every stage of Moldova's European path. The partnership between our governments, our companies, our theaters, and our universities is translating into concrete results for people on both sides of the Prut River," Dorin Recean said. He highlighted cooperation in the energy sector: half of Moldova's electricity is purchased from Romania at favorable prices, and interconnection lines are under construction. The Vulcanesti-Chisinau line is in the final stages of construction, while two more lines are under construction: Balti-Suceava in the north and Straseni-Gutinas in the central part. According to Dorin Recean, joint projects also include the construction of a bridge in Ungheni and other bridges that will facilitate the movement of citizens and freight transport. Romania's support is also important for our country's inclusion in European budget planning and for gaining access to EU funds as soon as possible. Another goal is to utilize trade and economic potential, increase trade volumes, and create new jobs and successful businesses on both sides of the Prut River. Dorin Recean noted that there are still many joint projects and initiatives ahead and expressed his conviction that Chisinau and Bucharest will one day sit at the European table to make decisions about the future of the entire continent. For his part, Ilie Bolojan noted that our country has faced the greatest challenges of the last decades and has managed to fulfill its European commitments in the long term. "Moldova is an example of courage, as it has withstood pressure. I assure you that we will continue to build new bridges that will bring us even closer together, as befits brotherly countries that share a common language, history, and values," Ilie Bolojan emphasized. It is worth noting that during his visit to Chisinau, the Romanian Prime Minister met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu. This is Ilie Bolojan's first visit to Chisinau since his appointment as Prime Minister of Romania. It should be noted that on August 31, Romanian President Nicușor Dan will also visit Chisinau to celebrate Romanian Language Day. //25.08.2025 – InfoMarket.
