A delegation from the World Bank Group, led by Country Manager Ulrich Schmitt, visited the construction sites of the 400 kV Vulcanesti–Chisinau power transmission line and the Vulcanesti substation
The visit was attended by Ruslan Surugiu, Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), and Sergiu Carmanschi, Deputy Director of Moldelectrica. During the visit, Ulrich Schmidt highly appreciated the active pace of work and the progress achieved, emphasizing the strategic importance of the project for Moldova's energy security and independence: “This project is crucial for strengthening the national energy system and increasing Moldova's resilience. It is more important than ever to accelerate these investments to ensure a secure and sustainable future for the energy sector.” In turn, Ruslan Surugiu emphasized that the project is progressing according to the schedule agreed with all stakeholders: “We are making every effort to ensure that all work is completed on time.” To date, 96% of the foundations (486 units) have been built, 419 supports (83%) have been erected, of which 370 (73%) have been installed, and 45.45 km (29%) of wires have been strung. At the Vulcanesti substation, 50% of the foundation construction work has been completed, and at the Chisinau substation, tests are continuing on the pre-assembly of the autotransformer. As previously reported, the Vulcanesti-Chisinau overhead power line project is a strategic investment aimed at improving the reliability of the national power transmission network and connecting Moldova more closely to the European energy market. The power system development project is being implemented by the Moldovan government through the Ministry of Energy and UCIPE with support from the World Bank Group. The direct beneficiary of the project is the state-owned company Moldelectrica. //22.08.2025 – InfoMarket.
