Pension payments have almost doubled in Moldova in recent years, from 16 billion to 30 billion lei, and the minimum pension has almost tripled, from 1,188 to 3,055 lei - Dorin Recean
Prime Minister made this statement as part of the “Moldova Can” information campaign, noting that “a decent present and future begins with caring for the most vulnerable.” According to the head of the Cabinet, in recent years the government has taken important social measures to be close to its citizens. "Despite global crises and inflation, the state has always shown concern for its people. For example, pension payments have almost doubled, from 16 billion to 30 billion lei. The minimum pension has increased almost threefold, from 1,188 to 3,055 lei. For comparison, over the 10 years from 2011 to 2021, the minimum pension increased by only 547 lei, from 641 to 1,188 lei, or approximately 54 lei per year," Dorin Recean noted. He emphasized that in recent years, the average pension in the country has doubled, from 2,255 to 4,407 lei. Every winter, the state paid compensation and benefits to the most vulnerable segments of the population. This winter, the most needy received between 800 and 1,400 lei per month throughout the cold season. By the end of the year, electricity bills will be compensated, and the previous price will remain in place for the first 110 kWh. "Thanks to EU assistance, we have created more social services in rural areas, including laundries, social canteens, and multifunctional centers. The amount of free medicines has been increased by 40%. In 2023, more than 800 thousand people received compensation for medicines, 20.5% more than in 2022," Prime Minister said. He stressed that, of course, the authorities want to do more and raise people's incomes faster. "With the help of the EU Growth Plan, we will make unprecedented investments to double GDP and create well-paid jobs in the country. That is why we need to become a member of the EU as soon as possible, where salaries and pensions are 3-4 times higher than in Moldova. “Moldova Can” means that we care about our elderly people and are working to ensure that they can live with dignity at home," said Dorin Recean. // 10.06.2025 – InfoMarket.
