Moldova wants to open all chapters of EU accession talks by the end of the year and is working to achieve this goal - Dorin Recean
Prime Minister made this statement after the 9th meeting of the Moldova-EU Association Council in Brussels. It included an assessment of our country's progress towards EU accession. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the continued assistance to our country and for the determination to help Moldova follow the European path. He noted that the parties had recently met in Chisinau and were now meeting again in Brussels. "Our relations have moved beyond the symbolic stage, when EU accession was just a dream, and have entered a phase of implementation and daily work. Our accession to the European Union is already happening—it is the new normal for Moldova. Since our last meeting, Moldova has taken concrete and bold steps on the path to European integration. We have overcome unprecedented challenges, from foreign interference aimed at provoking a humanitarian crisis to constant attempts at destabilization. The citizens of Moldova have shown that we are already Europeans and that our choice is a future in the European Union. Our goal is crystal clear: to open all chapters of the negotiations by the end of the year," Dorin Recean said. According to him, to achieve this goal, last week the government approved the National EU Accession Program, a medium-term reform plan that is already being implemented by teams from ministries, agencies, local government, and civil society organizations. "We rely on the support of the European Union in this process. You are our loyal friends, always by our side to support our efforts to build a developed society, even in times of trial. You are with us through investments, budget support, technical assistance, and joint projects that improve people's lives and help us maintain peace and security," said Moldovan Prime Minister. He recalled that on May 9, the parties signed the Moldova Growth Plan, an unprecedented financial assistance package for development and proof that Moldova enjoys the trust and respect of its European partners. "Thanks to this agreement, we are committed to raising living standards, modernizing institutions, and investing to ensure economic growth. With European support during difficult times, we have ensured economic stability, offered compensation for energy, and intervened with social measures to protect people's purchasing power. Also with European support, in the coming years we will repair more roads, build new hospitals, modernize schools and universities, support the industrialization of agriculture, and stimulate exports and the development of our companies. On our own, it would take us half a century to achieve what we will achieve in the coming years. Together with the European Union, we have the opportunity to do this much faster and close the development gap between Moldova and European countries," Prime Minister said. He noted that this year Moldova also became a member of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and from autumn, bank transfer fees within the EU and from the EU will be significantly reduced. "We have ensured Moldova's final independence from gas blackmail and increased our own production of renewable energy. We are in the process of completing the separation, and soon the state will take control of the country's gas supply infrastructure. We will complete the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line by the end of the year and are making progress in the development of green energy: in April, for the first time, 36% of Moldova's total electricity consumption was covered by renewable sources, and the total installed capacity reached 665 MW. This is an eightfold increase in four years. We have avoided a humanitarian crisis and conflict that the Kremlin wanted to provoke in the Transnistrian region. We are also grateful to the European Union for its support through the Security and Defense Partnership, through access to the Cyber Security Reserves, through the extension of the Partnership Mission's mandate, and through its consistent assistance in modernizing defense capabilities," said Dorin Recean. According to him, the EU remains Moldova's largest trading partner, and thanks to the interconnection projects we are implementing, such as the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau highway, trade volumes will increase. “We are working to accelerate integration into the single European market, as this means investment, jobs, and a better standard of living for all Moldovans. We are working towards a future based on shared values and a strong commitment to freedom and peace,” said the head of the Cabinet. He noted that the 2024 presidential elections and the constitutional referendum confirmed the citizens' firm choice in favor of European values, freedom, and a peaceful future. "Our response is adequate: strengthening the rule of law, fighting corruption, and reducing the influence of oligarchs. We will continue to fight disinformation that threatens national security, we will defend the integrity of electoral processes, and we will work day after day to ensure that reforms are not just a nice document, but a reality for every citizen. We are not afraid of work because we know where we want to go. Moldova is determined to move forward. Seriously, by working and with your support. I know for sure that Moldova can do it, and the European Union can do even more if Moldova is part of its family!" concluded Prime Minister. // 05.06.2025 — InfoMarket
