“Joining the European Union is a Marshall Plan for Moldova” - Maia Sandu

Moldovan President said this while speaking at the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform held in Chisinau. She said that Moldova's future growth, stability and democratic consolidation are linked to its path to the EU membership. The head of state said that what is happening now will determine the future to which the country aspires. “We are in a race against time. To win, we need to fill the gaps of today. We cannot achieve this without your help. More importantly, we cannot achieve this unless this assistance is faster, more flexible, increasing and focused on our needs - on economic growth, on infrastructure, on jobs, on empowering our SMEs and on increasing investment in the green transition,” said Maia Sandu. She also pointed out another important aspect that we should all keep in mind. It is that economic growth and democracy feed each other. “Economic progress is crucial for strengthening support for democracy, and democracy is the best basis for creating a prosperous economy,” Moldovan President said. She called on all partners to be bold, innovative and decisive. “Moldova is ready to contribute to growth and stability at home and in the region, but we cannot do it alone, so we count on your further support,” she emphasized. “We know the direction well: forward, towards a European future where peace and prosperity are the agenda. The future of our country is not built overnight, but every step we take together brings us closer to that stable European future, where every citizen lives in dignity and security. My main message today is that we can no longer afford the luxury of wasting time - we must act decisively and with greater confidence. We ask that the support we receive be as direct, flexible and fast as possible. Moldova has enormous potential, but given the war on the border, it is difficult for us to capitalize on it. And history has taught us that no country has been able to succeed economically without strong initial support and lasting partnership. It is this assistance that we are asking our partners for,” the head of state said. According to her, everything the authorities are doing is aimed at improving the lives of our people - building roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and creating new jobs. “We have a lot to do, and we know that only together we can make our dreams a reality. We are ready to work side by side to build a strong Moldova, a place where we all feel at home, in a united Europe,” Maia Sandu said. // 17.09.2024 – InfoMarket
