NBM President Anca Dragu highlighted Moldova’s progress during her participation in the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro

According to the National Bank, in particular, NBM President Anca Dragu spoke about Moldova’s progress and prospects at the Global Meeting of the International Sustainable Banking and Finance Network, organized within the framework of the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG), a global event that took place on September 11-12 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Anca Dragu participated in the SBFN Members’ Highlights panel, where she presented the topic of sustainable finance from the perspective of the National Bank of Moldova and spoke about the commitments to develop and implement a national sustainable finance system that is in line with most international and EU best practices. At the same time, she shared the NBM’s experience in developing and implementing a sustainable finance roadmap in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) from the World Bank Group. “Our strong commitment to sustainable finance is reflected in the concrete steps we have taken in cooperation with international partners and leading financial institutions. This approach not only brings Moldova closer to the best global practices, but also contributes to the consolidation of a sustainable economy and the construction of a prosperous future for all citizens,” said the President of the National Bank of Moldova. Anca Dragu represented the National Bank of Moldova at the G20 summit, which was the historic first participation of this institution in this high-level international forum. During the event, the NBM Governor also held bilateral discussions with colleagues from other countries, the purpose of which was to share best practices in sustainable finance. The SBFN Global Meeting, which was held for the eighth time, was held on September 11-12 under the auspices of the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG), which aims to mobilize sustainable finance as a way to ensure economic growth and stability worldwide and to facilitate the transition to greener, more resilient and more inclusive economies. The event in Rio de Janeiro brought together more than 40 sustainable finance leaders, central bank governors, including senior representatives of the SFWG, SBFN members, experts from the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). As of November 8, 2023, the National Bank of Moldova joined the Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN) - a voluntary community of financial sector regulators, central banks, finance ministries, environment ministries and industry associations from emerging markets dedicated to promoting sustainable finance.
