A unified platform of partners in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency will be created in Moldova.
The future platform is designed to bring together under one roof all parties interested in the development and stimulation of the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors in Moldova, through their involvement and unification. The public association Green City Lab Moldova and the USAID Moldova Energy Security Project (MESA) have started public discussions to present the goals and mode of operation of the future platform, which will be implemented with the support of USAID and the British Embassy in Moldova. “Through various projects, USAID Moldova contributes to the development of the energy sector in Moldova. We are committed to jointly strengthening the capacity of private sector actors who are focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency. We gathered to discuss issues, make connections and explore all aspects of reform that can be implemented. We are looking forward to the launch of this association,” said USAID Moldova Energy Advisor Marina Vardanyan. State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova Constantin Borosan called the presence of a single platform for partners in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors a necessary condition for greater mobilization and involvement of the private sector. “We welcome diverse stakeholders – governments, the private sector, energy companies, associations and academia – to join this single platform. The interests of different parties are different, but it is essential that everyone's views are taken into account. The most valuable work is carried out when we conceptualize new ideas and solutions,” emphasized Constantin Borosan. “The renewable energy market in Moldova is valued at more than $2 billion, and the government cannot develop without the participation of the private sector. The purpose of this event is to bring together renewable energy and energy efficiency stakeholders to voice their opinions, be heard, and ensure that their ideas are considered in the development and enforcement of various rules and regulations. We are not just talking about the government or the Department of Energy, but about everyone who is involved or should be involved. Individual efforts will be weak and will not lead to the desired results,” emphasized Armen Arzumanyan, director of the USAID Moldova Energy Security (MESA) project. In turn, the director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy, Ion Muntean, emphasized that the initiative to create a single platform is necessary to improve coordination and ensure the most successful implementation of changes. “It is important to emphasize that we already have a mechanism for financing energy efficiency projects in the residential sector. Within the framework of the commitment mechanism in the field of energy efficiency, it is planned to mobilize 700 million lei over the next 3 years. This amount will be at least doubled by donors and development partners. Therefore, the created institutional framework, the adjustment of the legislative framework and the approved financing mechanism are positive signals that the private sector should take into account when developing business strategies for the coming years,” noted Ion Muntean. // 05.04.2024 — InfoMarket
