Director of the Customs Service of Moldova Igor Talmazan announced his resignation from his position.
He named one of the reasons for this step as the latest case, when 7 customs inspectors suspected of corruption were detained at the customs post of the Chisinau airport. Igor Talmazan said that he was responsible for both the successes and failures of the Customs Service, and therefore considered it his duty to resign. He noted that we need a modern Customs Service that effectively, professionally and responsibly manages the customs sector, fights fraud and contributes to the economic security of the country, a service that would have honest customs officers who strictly adhere to the Code of Ethics. Igor Talmazan said that in the course of activities in cooperation with the professional team of the Customs Service and other government agencies, progress was noted in many areas, and the main task was the development of an appropriate regulatory framework and the immediate implementation of the new Customs Code. At the same time, he said, there is still much work to be done in the areas of institutional integrity and professional ethics. “The latest case, when 7 customs inspectors suspected of corruption were detained at the customs post of Chisinau Airport, shows that a lot of effort remains to be made. As a director, I am responsible for the good management of the Customs Service and am responsible for both the successes and failures during the period when I led the Customs Service, and I believe that as the head of the agency, I should tender my resignation and resign from the position of Director of the Customs Service", - emphasized Igor Talmazan. He noted that the fight against corruption is a long-term task and new energy is needed to accelerate and complete this mission and the new leader must pay more attention to the area of institutional integrity. “I am convinced that the Customs Service will become an institution that the business community and citizens will speak about with respect and trust,” says Igor Talmazan’s message. He served as Director of Customs from September 2021 to November 2022 and was reappointed to the position on February 20, 2023.// 04.04.2024 — InfoMarket
