The European Union will allocate Moldova 41 million euros to support its armed forces and supply them with non-lethal equipment.
These assistance measures were approved by the EU Council. The money will be provided from the European Peace Facility in order to improve national security, stability and sustainability in the defense sector. According to the EU Council, the 41-million-euro measure for Moldova will last for 40 months and will finance the supply of non-lethal equipment in the following fields: mobility, air surveillance, electronic warfare and logistics equipment. Building on previous support from the European Peace Facility, this aid measure aims to enable the Moldovan Armed Forces to improve operational effectiveness, accelerate compliance with EU standards and interoperability, and thus better protect civilians in crisis and emergency situations. The assistance also aims at strengthening Moldova's capacity to participate in military missions and operations of the EU Common Security and Defense Policy. This measure was requested by Moldova on February 5, 2023 and will complement other assistance measures adopted in May 2023, June 2022 and December 2021. It is stressed that the EU is ready to provide Moldova with all necessary support to address the challenges "it faces as a result of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and to strengthen the resilience, security and stability of the country in the face of Russia's destabilizing activities." // 05.04.2024 – InfoMarket
