Moldova and Romania intend to have at least 3 power lines connecting them by 2030, which will ensure stable operation of the Moldovan energy system integrated into the continental ENTSO-E
This was stated by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, who presented large-scale reforms in the energy sector of Moldova and new opportunities for cooperation with Romania at the energy symposium SIREN in Romania. According to the Ministry of Energy, the event takes place on Monday and Tuesday and was organized for the second time by the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council. The forum is attended by representatives of the Romanian executive and legislative authorities, companies from Romania and Moldova. The Moldovan Energy Minister thanked Romania for its financial and political support over the years, especially during the energy crisis of recent years, including efforts to balance the gas system when Russia limited supplies to Moldova, as well as for the supply of electricity from 2022 and the provision of fuel oil in the form of assistance. “I will never tire of thanking Romania and the Romanian people for the enormous support provided to Moldova, including during the energy crisis of recent years, which we are discussing today. In this context, our bilateral relations, both in the field of infrastructure and in the field of trade, have become so intensified that we recently decided to revive the Interdepartmental Working Group on Energy to coordinate numerous activities,” said Victor Parliсov. The Minister of Energy of Moldova announced the completion of the unbundling procedure, or the separation of transportation from the distribution and supply of natural gas through an agreement voluntarily signed by the subsidiaries of Transgaz (Romania) and Gazprom (Russia) on the operation of the gas transmission system in Moldova, including in Transnistria region, by Vestmoldtransgaz. Regarding the electricity sector, it was noted that ties with Romania are being strengthened through the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage line, bypassing the Moldavian State District Power Plant. Moldova has already allocated resources for the Balti-Suceava power line and a feasibility study for the construction of the Straseni-Iasi power line is being prepared. According to Victor Parlicov, other options are being considered to have at least 3 power lines between Moldova and Romania, which will ensure stable operation of the energy system integrated into the continental ENTSO-E. The construction period for these power transmission lines is until 2030. At the same time, the Minister of Energy emphasized that the Romanian Commodity Exchange is already operating in Chisinau, and recently a decision was made to expand the OPCOM energy exchange in Moldova, which will conduct the first transactions next year. Victor Parlicov also reported on ongoing reforms in the energy sector, including the intention to privatize electricity distribution networks in the north of the country, in which Romania is also showing interest. He spoke about the creation of a Public Sector Energy Efficiency Fund, as well as the electrification of transport and the digitization of the sector, all aimed at achieving carbon-neutral development by 2050. // 11.09.2023 — InfoMarket.
