The Ministry of Finance is preparing amendments to the Law on the state budget for 2023 to increase its revenue side by increasing tax collection and including a US grant of $80 million.
Finance Minister Veroniсa Sireteanu said this while answering journalists' questions at a press conference on Wednesday after a government meeting. The head of the Ministry of Finance stressed that more detailed information will be provided later, after the agency submits to the government a draft law to amend the Law on the state budget for the current year. She noted that, as a rule, budget adjustments are carried out in order to include additional funds and clarify expenditure items. “We have quite good results of the State Tax Service in collecting taxes and duties this year. In addition, it is also important that we received additional assistance from the United States in the form of a grant in the amount of $80 million, which should also be included in the state budget so that we can invest in projects such as the European Village, the construction of many roads and other important projects for the development of national infrastructure,” Veronica Sireteanu emphasized. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the United States decided to increase assistance to the energy sector of Moldova by $300 million, after last year it allocated $267 million in emergency assistance to our country to help cope with the economic, energy, and humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine. The $300 million additional funding includes $80 million in direct budget support to offset the cost of record electricity prices this winter. In addition, to improve long-term energy security, $135 million will be allocated to develop priority electricity generation projects in Moldova so that the country's electricity supply can be diversified. Another $85 million will be provided to improve Moldova's ability to supply energy from alternative sources, as well as to increase the sustainability of the energy system. // 26.04.2023 — InfoMarket.
