Moldova has taken measures to improve energy resilience and energy efficiency and hopes to attract new investment in renewable energy.

This was stated by Speaker of the Parliament Igor Grosu, speaking at the conference of chairmen of the European Union parliaments taking place in Prague. He noted that on March 3, 2022, Moldova applied for EU membership in the context of the complex challenges caused by the war in Ukraine. In addition to waves of refugees, disruption of trade and energy supply, social and economic consequences of the war, Moldova is facing hybrid and direct attempts to destabilize the reform process and threaten democratic rule. In response, Moldova maintained its internal security and accelerated reforms aimed at strengthening the country's overall resilience. The Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament stressed that over the past year the government has made great efforts to improve energy sustainability. For the first time, Moldova did not rely on Russian gas during the heating season and joined the EU Energy Platform, which makes it possible to purchase gas jointly with EU countries. Synchronization of the power grids with the EU system has made it possible to ensure an uninterrupted domestic supply of electricity, and work is underway to establish new connections between the Moldovan and Romanian power grids. According to him, our country has started implementing energy efficiency programs and changed the rules regarding the energy sector in order to be able to buy gas on the market and promote investment in renewable energy sources. An Action Plan was also developed to reduce energy consumption and increase energy independence.// 25.04.2023 — InfoMarket.
