
A tender will soon be announced for the construction of a road bridge that will connect the city of Ungheni in Moldova and the commune of Ungheni in Romania.
Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Lilia Dabija, announced this, during a visit to the municipality of Ungheni, where it is planned to build a bridge over the Prut River, which is part of the Unirii - A8 highway. The bridge over Prut River in Ungheni will be the first four-lane bridge between Romania and Moldova, its length will be 260 meters and the construction period will last 24 months. This bridge over the Prut will provide a connection of the road network of Moldova with the European network of TEN-T highways. It was noted that after the approval of the project the Government of Romania will soon announce a tender for the works. It was previously reported that the total cost of the Ungheni bridge construction will be 33 million euros. The Romanian authorities had previously announced the approval of the EU funding of 16.5 million euros. The bridge will have four lanes and will increase the capacity of international freight and passenger traffic between Moldova and Romania, as well as opportunities for economic exchange between the two countries.
