The European Commission and the Council of the EU have been called upon to take the necessary steps to start accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine by the end of 2023.

Euronest Parliamentary Assembly consists of members of the European Parliament and parliamentarians of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to Siegfried Muresan, Vice President of the European People's Party Group, Chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the Parliamentary Committee on EU-Moldova Association. The resolution on the strategic importance of starting accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova was initiated by the European People's Party Group and adopted today by an overwhelming majority of the Euronest Assembly. 36 votes in favor, 0 against and 1 abstention. "In the text of the resolution, we also demand the gradual integration of Moldova and Ukraine into the European Single Market until the accession negotiations are completed. Thus, by integrating the two countries into the Single Market, citizens of Ukraine and Moldova will experience faster some of the most important benefits of actual EU accession, such as the creation of new stable and prosperous paid jobs, attracting new European investors to the two countries, increasing exports of Moldovan and Ukrainian products to the EU and easier access at lower prices to EU products. At the same time, we consider it strategically important to set a clear deadline for completing accession negotiations with the candidate countries no later than the end of this decade," said Siegfried Muresan. According to him, the resolution adopted today shows that the European Parliament and the parliaments of the Eastern Neighborhood countries are united in supporting the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the EU. "We all agree that the European integration of Moldova and Ukraine means concrete benefits for citizens of the two countries, as well as for citizens of the European Union and all Eastern Neighborhood countries," he said.
