The goal of the new government is to ensure the safety of citizens and to lead Moldova to the path of recovery and development - Maia Sandu.

Moldovan president stated this after the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. Addressing the new Prime Minister Dorin Recean and members of the Cabinet, she noted that they will have to manage the country's affairs in a very difficult period, amid numerous crises. "People's expectations from both you and the state are extremely high. Moldova must not only endure, but also continue to develop. Our task is to protect people from crises that affect our country, and to invest in the future. The goal of the new Government is to ensure the safety of citizens and put Moldova on the path of recovery and development despite all crises. Our development project is the accession to the European Union. Only this way, we will be able to preserve and strengthen our democracy, to accelerate economic growth and to raise the living standards of people", the head of state stated. According to her, the changes to be made by the authorities in order to meet the conditions of the European Union are not only requirements for the accession process itself; they are the key to the normal functioning of the state. "And we don't make them for someone, we work for ourselves: we work to improve the situation in the justice system, to increase the competitiveness of the economy and, of course, improve the living conditions of the people. By fulfilling these tasks, we will bring the state closer to the citizen," Maia Sandu said. She noted that this year and in subsequent years, the economy must be restored. "Our policy must motivate workers, stimulate job creation and employment of qualified employees. The goal is to create as many jobs as possible and increase productivity. Tough economic action is needed that will have an impact on raising living standards. Decisive steps are also needed to strengthen the country's security. The war in Ukraine continues, and that war provokes risks for us as well. Threats to our country remain high. Attempts at destabilization are a reality, and it is a real challenge for our state institutions," the head of state said. She expressed confidence that the authorities will maintain peace and order in the country and will ensure the protection of Moldovan citizens and all the people who live here. President stressed that the government must continue its efforts to clean up the judicial system. "We are accountable to the people for the triumph of justice in our country. This is one of our promises to citizens, and we will keep our word. No matter how many obstacles there are, no matter how much resistance there is, the changes in the justice system must continue - and they must be accelerated," the head of state said. The process of rebuilding the settlements must also continue, she said. "This year and in the following years, the government plans to complete some and start new infrastructure projects, both under the European Village Program and other programs. Investments in infrastructure will change the quality of life in communities across the country. People need quality roads, they need to see that their villages and towns are changing for the better, that they have European-standard schools and kindergartens, that hospitals and medical services are getting better. Life in Moldova can be better, both in cities and villages," Maia Sandu said. She stressed that the new government must keep Moldova in the space of free countries, where human life is important, and where everyone is free to think, act and build the life they want. "Society is still turbulent, and therefore the government has a responsibility to respond to challenges in all spheres. I expect the government to communicate openly and directly with the people, to clearly inform them of everything that is being done and happening," the head of state said. She once again thanked Natalia Gavrilita and her colleagues who have left the government for their exceptional efforts shown during the 18 months of the mandate. // 17.02.2023 – InfoMarket
