The Moldovan Parliament extended the state of emergency throughout the country for another 60 days, starting from February 4.

The deputies approved the corresponding decision at the suggestion of the government. The need to extend the state of emergency in Moldova is due to the ongoing risks and threats regarding energy security, as well as national security, in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. As Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita noted, given the existing risks and threats, as well as the ongoing energy, humanitarian, social and security challenges generated by the war in a neighboring state, the government considers it necessary to extend the state of emergency so that the country's authorities have the opportunity to promptly intervene and adopt additional solutions to those provided by the existing legal framework, as well as to maintain the mechanisms adopted so far by the Commission for Emergency Situations in order to ensure energy security, manage refugee flows and prevent threats to security and public order. According to the resolution approved by the parliament, during the state of emergency, the Commission for Emergency Situations issues binding and enforceable regulations for the heads of central and local authorities, business entities, state institutions, as well as for citizens of Moldova and other persons in the country. Recall that on February 24, the Parliament of Moldova introduced a state of emergency for 60 days due to the situation in Ukraine and threats to the security of Moldova, and subsequently extended it several times: from April 25 - for 60 days, from June 24 - for 45 days, from 8 August - for 60 days, from October 7 - for 60 days, from December 9 - for 60 days.// 02.02.2023 — InfoMarket
