Electricity deficit in Moldova on November 29 may reach 74% and will be covered by supplies from Romania under emergency contracts.
Moldelectrica has said that Energocom had informed the company the day before that the entire volume of electricity consumption forecasted for 29 November had not been contracted and, therefore, the power deficit was expected to be about 74%. For its part, Energocom announced that on 28 November, it could not buy electricity on the OPCOM platform for November 29 because of a sharp increase in prices, and in this regard, the transmission system operator Moldelectrica will cover the deficit on Tuesday from operators in neighboring countries on the basis of contracts for emergency deliveries. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu said on the air of the Pro TV channel that Energocom used to buy electricity from the Romanian market every day, but an incomprehensible phenomenon occurred on the European market on 28 November, and electricity prices on EU exchanges, including in Romania, suddenly increased by 30-40%. Energocom offered a lower price, and as a result, was unable to buy the volume of electricity needed for the entire day. As a consequence, on Tuesday, 29 November, the power deficit in Moldova will reach a record 74%, and Moldelectrica will cover it by importing power from Romania, under emergency supply contracts. Andrei Spinu stressed that it is difficult to name the price of electricity bought under emergency contracts, specifying only that it will be higher than the statistical average. "The price of this electricity is still unknown, we will know it on Tuesday, it depends on the time. On average, we bought electricity at 200-300 euros, depending on the day and the day time," he noted. // 29.11.2022 - InfoMarket
