
The U.S. will provide Moldova with an additional grant of $19.5 million to overcome the energy crisis and enhance energy security.
In particular, the 14th Amendment to the Development Assistance Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Moldova and the United States for Sustainable Economic Growth based on European Integration, concluded on September 28, 2016, ratified by the Moldovan Parliament, provides for this. In particular, it stipulates a new grant of $19.5 million for Moldova to strengthen our country's energy security, reduce its dependence on Russia by connecting key elements of Moldova's energy sector to European systems, and to attract investments in local energy production, diversify natural gas supplies and improve energy efficiency. Also, the mentioned amendment provides for establishment of terms and conditions for $30 million in non-reimbursable budget support to be provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the money will be used to overcome the energy crisis in the electric power sector. In particular, the funds will be used to cover electricity purchases from Ukrainian suppliers in May-September 2022.
