The EU will provide Moldova with 250 million euros to overcome the energy crisis and introduce an innovative energy rescue scheme to attract additional financial support.
This was stated by the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Olivér Várhelyi, speaking at the Third Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Support Platform in Paris, where he represented the European Union. As noted in the message of the European Commission, Oliver Varhelyi spoke at the event about the new EU assistance to Moldova in the amount of 250 million euros to overcome the energy crisis, as stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on November 10 in Chisinau. In addition, he spoke about the Energy Saving Scheme for Moldova, proposed by the European Commission jointly with the Energy Community Secretariat, and the European Commission's support of 25 million euros for EU humanitarian assistance operations in Moldova. During the conference, the European Commissioner met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu and members of the team of French President Emmanuel Macron. “Through the Moldova Support Platform, the European Union and its partners actively support Moldova in overcoming the energy crisis and the humanitarian consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine,” said European Commissioner Várhelyi. “We have created a new €250 million energy support package to help Moldova meet its energy needs, fight energy poverty and improve its energy security. In addition, an innovative Energy Saving Scheme, created by the Energy Community Secretariat, will help partners across the international community quickly channel additional financial support to Moldova to overcome the energy crisis in the coming months. Moldova, an EU candidate country, is part of the European family. The EU continues to support Moldova in solving numerous problems and at the same time unconditionally supports the country on its European path,” said Oliver Várhelyi. // 21.11.2022 — InfoMarket
