Moldova stands for intensifying the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation with Georgia.

This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu at a joint press conference in Chisinau with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili. She also noted the desire of Chisinau to intensify contacts with Tbilisi in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the interest in exchanging experience in the fight against propaganda and disinformation, emphasizing that both countries are facing this problem, which has become even more aggravated in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine. Maia Sandu noted that, despite all the difficulties that both countries are currently facing, Moldova and Georgia want harmonious development and a peaceful and prosperous future for their citizens, and the intensification of bilateral cooperation can help them achieve their stated goals. “Moldovans and Georgians have clear European aspirations, and it is our duty to do everything possible to accelerate the realization of the European dream of our peoples. The future in the family of European states will secure our countries in the political, economic and value space, where people will have more opportunities to live and develop freely, in security and prosperity,” the President of Moldova stressed. She noted that she was glad to visit Batumi during the summit held in the summer of 2021, and, in turn, is glad to invite the President of Georgia to Chisinau next spring for the summit of the European Political Community, which recently started in Prague. “An open dialogue and cooperation based on the values of freedom and democracy, exchange of experience in the process of European integration will help our countries move forward along the European path and provide our citizens with a guaranteed future in the free world,” the head of the Moldovan state said. She drew attention to the fact that the visit of Salome Zourabichvili to Chisinau is the first visit of the President of Georgia after a 12-year break, and this year our countries celebrate 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations. Maia Sandu expressed her hope that the visit of Salome Zourabichvili to Moldova will open a new chapter in Moldovan-Georgian relations. The President of Moldova recalled that there are unresolved conflicts in the territories of Moldova and Georgia and, taking the opportunity, expressed support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders. She stressed that the international community must do everything possible to stop Russian aggression and help Ukraine restore its territorial integrity. “Without peace in Ukraine, there can be no peace in Europe. And we cannot allow aggression and fear to win. We must do everything to restore the international order based on rules, reaffirm our respect for international law, the sovereignty of states, as well as their right to determine their own destiny. Only in this way can we ensure lasting peace in our region and throughout the world,” Maia Sandu said.// 17.10.2022 — InfoMarket
