Moldova and Romania for the first time will launch joint customs control at the Leuseni-Albita checkpoint and take other measures to optimize the freight transport traffic at the border.
This was reported by the press service of the Moldovan government, noting that this is provided for by an urgent action plan to unblock truck traffic on the Moldovan-Romanian border, which was agreed upon by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and her Romanian counterpart Nicolae Ciuca. Solutions to optimize the movement of goods on the border of Moldova with Romania and Ukraine were determined today during an interdepartmental meeting in Bucharest, which was attended by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita. As a result of the discussions, it was decided to implement an urgent action plan necessary to optimize traffic and unblock the situation at customs. The document provides, in particular, the creation of a joint group that will coordinate the actions of the Moldovan and Romanian authorities at the border crossing points in order to reduce the current load and waiting time for trucks. The first customs point where control and customs clearance will be carried out by mixed Moldovan-Romanian teams will be the Leuseni-Albita checkpoint. Customs control will be carried out on the Romanian side by equipping it with many electronic document processing devices. Freight traffic will be organized depending on the load. For example, empty cars will be allowed to transit through checkpoints with small capacity. The number of customs officers will increase the speed of processing and improve the efficiency of customs operations. The work schedule of the control groups from Moldova and Romania will be synchronized. Phytosanitary and sanitary-veterinary services in Romania will work around the clock and seven days a week. At each checkpoint, the situation with the status of the functionality of scanners, scales and other technologies for scanning and checking trucks should be checked and presented. These steps need to be taken as a first step. The second phase of the urgent action plan, aimed at normalizing the situation at border crossing points, will be based on a joint action plan to prevent similar events in the future // 10.06.2022 — InfoMarket
