
Monthly inflation in Moldova reached 2.04% in May, 2022, annual inflation (over the last 12 months) – 29.05% and inflation in January-May, 2022 – 17.57%.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, stating that last May monthly inflation reached 0.48%, annual inflation (over the last 12 months) - 3.09%, while in January-May 2021 inflation reached 3.81%. NBS notes that average consumer prices in May 2022 rose by 29.05% compared to May 2021 (the last 12 months), including food products rose by 32.5%, non-food products - by 21.45%, while tariffs on services provided to the population increased by 35.27%. According to NBS, at the same time, consumer prices in May 2022, compared to April 2022, rose by an average of 2.04% against an increase in food prices by 2.5%, non-food prices by 2.48%, as well as an increase in tariffs for services provided to the population by 0.75%. According to official statistics, in particular, in May 2022, compared with the previous month, prices of the following foodstuffs increased more markedly: vegetable oil - by 9.6%, fresh fruit - by 5.4%, meat, processed meat, canned meat and wheat flour bread - by 2.8%, sugar - by 2.3%, milk and dairy products - about 1%. At the same time, the prices of vegetables decreased by 2.7%, berries - by 5.4% and eggs - by 0.2% during the reporting period. As far as non-food products are concerned, in May 2022, compared with the previous month, the most significant price increases were observed for: fuel and lubricants - by 4.7% (including gasoline - by 7.9%, diesel fuel - by 2.2%), building materials for home maintenance and repair - by 2.8%. For services provided to the population in May 2022, compared to April 2022, prices/tariffs increased on average by 0.75%. At the same time the increase in prices for catering services was more pronounced - by 3.1%.
