Moldova to receive a new grant of $3,105,000 from the WB under the "Moldova Agriculture Competitiveness Project" (MAC-P).

This is provided for in a grant agreement between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD - part of the World Bank Group), the law on ratification of which was voted by parliament in its first reading on Thursday. The document itself was signed on December 10, 2021 in Chisinau. The money will be provided to Moldova from the Global Environment Facility’s sources and will be used to mitigate land degradation and increase agricultural productivity. It is worth mentioning that the mentioned grant agreement represents the fourth additional funding for the Moldova Agriculture Competitiveness Project (MAC-P) and includes three components: strengthening institutional capacity for sustainable land management; providing financial assistance for implementing sustainable land management; and supporting the rehabilitation of erosion control protective strips in the north of Moldova. The new grant will expand activities aimed at applying sustainable land management practices, knowledge transfer, protection, conservation and prevention of soil degradation. Under the grant agreement, farmers of Moldova will be able to benefit from information and co-financing programs to implement sustainable agricultural practices and environmentally sound technologies in order to increase agricultural productivity and properly manage natural resources. In particular, farms that focus on the application of conservative tillage technologies will be able to receive grants. At the same time, activities will be implemented to restore erosion control forest belts with employment and wage opportunities for the rural population in the northern region of the country by 2024. Also, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment will receive institutional support under the project. The Grant Agreement is to be implemented by the end of 2024. Its ratification draft will be presented for the second reading. // 09.06.2022 - InfoMarket
