The Supreme Security Council has made a series of recommendations to ensure food security in Moldova in 2022-2023.
In particular, they were made public on Wednesday after the previous day's meeting of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), convened by Moldovan President Maia Sandu to discuss food security issues in the country. According to the press service of the head of state, at the meeting the reports and analyses of state institutions concerning the provision of agricultural and food stocks and the supply of the domestic market and the efficiency of the agricultural and food sector in general were presented. In this context, they discussed actions that need to be taken for: effective functioning of value chains and ensuring access of domestic products to markets and sales networks; eliminating the consequences of monopoly position obtained through non-competitive methods by some irresponsible economic agents in the market; increasing productivity in the agrarian sector. As a result of discussions, CSS formulated a number of recommendations to ensure food security in Moldova in 2022-2023. They envisage that within 3 weeks the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the Ministry of Economy will finalize the Strategy for Food Security and the Action Plan for its implementation, which will include the application, if necessary, of certain regulation of exports of raw materials and food products in 2022-2023. Within 4 weeks, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economy and the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) will review food safety procedures in order to eliminate redundant elements in the certification process of food and food producers from Moldova and from abroad. It is agreed that the Competition Council will monitor the relevant markets and promptly investigate and punish cases of abuse of a dominant position. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance will ensure uninterrupted transportation of raw materials and foodstuffs through border crossing points, including through closer and better cooperation with neighboring countries. It is planned that within 3 weeks the Ministry of Agriculture and ANSA will review procedures to ensure the presence of frozen foods in the market. Within 2 weeks, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture will establish a list of priority commodities and raw materials to regulate the domestic market and exports. Within 3 weeks, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will revise the level of mandatory state reserves for products and raw materials. // 08.06.2022 - InfoMarket
