The Moldovan government will soon decide on the purchase of the necessary electricity in June.
This was announced to journalists by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu. According to experts, in the current situation, the Moldovan authorities hardly have a choice, and, most likely, the Moldovan authorities will extend for another month the decision to purchase most of the electricity from the Moldavskaya GRES on favorable terms in exchange for an extension of the work permit for the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant in Ribnita. Earlier, Andrei Spinu noted that the state-owned company Energocom would hold direct negotiations on the purchase of electricity with the Moldovan State District Power Plant and Ukrainian companies and would conclude new contracts by the end of May. This month, Moldova is purchasing electricity from two sources - 70% of the required volumes are provided by the Moldavskaya GRES, and 30% by Ukrhydroenergo. Earlier it was reported that Energocom agreed with Moldavskaya GRES that it would supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester for at least another month - until the end of May, but its selling price would increase from $53.5 to $59.5 per MWh. At the same time, the Commission for Emergency Situations allowed the Environmental Protection Agency, in derogation from the provisions of the current legislation, to issue an environmental permit to the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant from Ribnita, also valid until May 31, 2022. As Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita specified, in this way, the authorities were able to as a result, for a month to get the opportunity to purchase electricity at a favorable price without the need to increase the tariff for end consumers, which is very important in the current difficult war conditions, numerous challenges of rising prices, and government actions will help prevent further price increases and improve the standard of living of the population, ensure predictability. Moldavskaya GRES is located in the Transnistrian region and belongs to the Russian company Inter RAO. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development noted that Moldavskaya GRES cannot supply Moldova with all the necessary volumes of electricity, but only 70%. A similar situation is expected in June, and Moldavskaya GRES will also be able to supply 70% of the required volumes of electricity, and we are discussing the price of supplies. "Our main goal is to get the lowest purchase price," Andrei Spinu said. The Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development also said that Ukrainian electricity suppliers are also not ready to conclude long-term contracts with Moldova, since they cannot take long-term obligations in a war because of the unpredictability of events. He noted that in May, 70% of electricity is supplied by Moldavskaya GRES, and 30% by Ukrhidroenergo, and the estimated average price of electricity in May will be $66.7 per MWh, and the end-user tariff is expected to remain unchanged in May. Premier Energy announced earlier that it is buying electricity supplied by UKRHydroenergo at a price of $84.74 per MW, which also includes a commission for services provided by the supplier Energocom. // 30.05.2022 — InfoMarket
