The volume of freight traffic in Moldova in March 2021 decreased by 5.7%, and in general, in the first quarter of 2021, it decreased by 14.6%.
As InfoMarket was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, in particular, the volume of cargo transportation by enterprises of railway, road, river and air transport in March 2021 amounted to 1 million 346.4 thousand tons, which is 5.7% less than for the same month of the previous year, and the volume of their cargo transportation as a whole in January-March 2021 amounted to 3 million 075.8 thousand tons, which is 14.6% less than the indicator of the same period in 2020. At the same time, in March 2021, in comparison with the same period of the previous year, the volume of cargo transportation by rail decreased by 40.9% - to 196.7 thousand tons, by road - increased by 3.8% - to 1 million 125.7 thousand tons, by air transport - increased by 25.4% - up to 0.1 thousand tons, and by river transport - increased 2.3 times - up to 23.9 thousand tons. Herewith, in general, in the first quarter of 2021, about 522.7 thousand tons of cargo were transported by rail, which is 44.3% less than in the same period of 2020. According to official statistics, most of the goods carried as before, it is transported by road (81.5% of the total). Thus, the volume of cargo transportation by road in January-March 2021 amounted to about 2 million 505.5 thousand tons, which is 5% less than in the same period of 2020. Meanwhile, the largest volume of transportation by road in the first 3 months 2021 fell on the enterprises of Chisinau municipality - 52.6% of the total, followed by transport companies from the development regions Center - 26.7%, North - 12.9%, South - 5.3% and ATU Gagauzia - 2.5%.
