The national banks of Moldova and Romania will expand bilateral cooperation

This was discussed during a meeting between the leadership of the central banks of the two countries, held in Bucharest. The parties discussed the expansion of bilateral cooperation, the strengthening of international dialogue, and integration into global financial structures. The discussions focused on the prospects for strengthening interdepartmental cooperation. In this regard, the National Bank of Romania's (NBR) continued support for Moldova's European path was emphasized. The parties also highly appreciated the high level of cooperation in the field of technical assistance and financial education, including through joint programs and the exchange of best practices. At the same time, the importance of continuing the partnership in organizing joint events aimed at strengthening genuine bilateral cooperation was reaffirmed. Both sides emphasized the importance of developing a sustainable partnership based on professionalism, trust, and common goals in support of Moldova's financial stability and European integration. The National Bank of Moldova’s (NBM) Governor Anca Dragu noted that the partnership with the National Bank of Romania is strategic in nature and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening institutions, bringing them into line with European standards, and integrating Moldova into the international financial architecture. According to her, Moldova's accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) has brought direct benefits to citizens and the business environment through faster, safer, and more affordable payments. Close cooperation and ongoing support from the National Bank of Romania played a decisive role in this process, providing important support on Moldova's European path and in achieving its goals. The institutional relationship between the two central banks, based on the Cooperation Agreement between the NBM and the NBR, continues to contribute to Moldova's alignment with European standards in key areas of the financial sector. // 19.02.2026 — InfoMarket.
