The Standing Bureau approved the decision to convene Parliament at the request of Igor Grosu, the speaker of the legislature. The draft agenda for the plenary sessions of the extraordinary session, approved by the Standing Bureau, includes 37 draft legislative acts, 23 of which bear the EU logo and are part of the commitments made during Moldova's accession process to the European Union. Areas targeted for the harmonization of national legislation with European standards include: social protection, justice, the financial market, environmental protection, infrastructure, the media, postal services, and road safety. In addition to the bills bearing the EU logo, the agenda also includes bills aimed at strengthening the national legislative framework. Among the bills to be considered in the second reading are the Code on the Organization and Functioning of Parliament, amendments to the Electoral Code, a bill on Moldova's accession to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters, as well as initiatives on the digitization of certain judicial procedures and public participation in the decision-making process. Lawmakers will also consider a draft law on the procedure for compensating damages caused by unlawful acts committed in criminal and petty offense proceedings, as well as a draft law on arbitration. Public consultations and parliamentary committee meetings will take place from August 20 to 25. Plenary sessions are scheduled for August 24 and 25.
