According to information provided to the InfoMarket agency by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), the volume of these remittances in June totaled $181.3 million, up by 6.2% compared to the previous month ($170.66 million), and also rose by 27.7% compared to June 2025 ($141.95 million). June 2026 saw the highest monthly remittance total since the beginning of this year. In the breakdown of remittances by currency from abroad to individuals, remittances in euros in June 2026 accounted for 83.8% (+3.1 percentage points compared to June 2025), remittances in U.S. dollars accounted for 16.2% (-p.p.), and remittances in Russian rubles accounted for 0% (unchanged). Specifically, in June 2025, the share of the U.S. dollar in the currency remittance structure was 19.3%, the euro—80.7%, and the ruble—0%. As noted by the NBM, the amounts of remittances from abroad to Moldovan individuals are converted from the original currency of the transfer into U.S. dollars at the NBM’s official exchange rate on the date the remittance is made. Both the origin and the purpose of these funds can vary. In addition to remittances from Moldovan migrants, they also include other types of money transfers: salary transfers to resident individuals from representative offices of non-residents (international financial institutions, international organizations, foreign economic agents) in Moldova; transfers to foreign citizens temporarily residing in Moldova; social pensions; benefits; and child support. The NBM data do not include payments made through banks from the left-bank regions of the Dniester. As previously reported by the InfoMarket agency, the volume of remittances to Moldova from abroad in favor of individuals via banks in 2025 amounted to $1,662.33 million, up by $50.71 million (+3.1%) compared to 2024. The all-time record for the volume of remittances from abroad to individuals via banks was set in 2022, when this figure reached $1,745.74 million, up by $133.91 million (+8.3%).
