This was discussed during a meeting that Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held with industry representatives from the Glodeni and Rîșcani districts, during which he discussed with them ways to increase the share of dairy products produced in Moldova, the investments needed to develop the sector, as well as the challenges faced by farmers and processors. The prime minister noted that it is necessary to produce more of the food products we consume. "We need modern, highly productive farms. We have shifted from subsidizing the number of cows to directly supporting milk production, thereby encouraging efficiency. More milk produced here, more Moldovan products on store shelves, and more added value remaining in our economy—this is precisely the direction in which we want to develop this sector," said Vasile Tofan. He noted that over the past five years, milk production on Moldovan farms has nearly tripled—from 23,000 to 64,000 metric tons per year. However, domestic production currently covers only about 60% of the demand for milk and dairy products. The government aims to increase this figure and support domestic processing of raw materials so that more Moldovan-produced goods reach store shelves. To stimulate the sector's development, farmers receive subsidies and grants for investments in high-yield livestock, modern equipment, and new technologies, including through the AGGRI project ("Investments in Agricultural Management, Growth, and Sustainability"). Examples of the development of local production and processing include the Hnatiuk family farm in Glodeni and the Lactis dairy plant in Rîșcani. At the Hnatiuk farm, investments in modern technologies have made it possible to significantly increase production volumes. The herd of milking cows has reached 365 head, and the average milk yield is about 42 liters per cow per day. At the Lactis dairy plant in Rîșcani, milk purchased from local producers is processed into various types of cheese and other dairy products. The company provides more than 200 jobs and contributes to the development of the local economy. The company has taken advantage of government investment support to modernize its production and is developing products such as aged cheeses (a segment currently dominated by imports), thereby offering local products that are competitive in terms of both quality and price. // 12.10.2026 — InfoMarket
