The National Anti-Corruption Center and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office conducted about 30 searches in several towns and villages across Moldova as part of an investigation into abuse of office and fraudulent acquisition of funds. According to investigators, starting in 2020, a representative of a company that designed water supply and sewer systems organized a scheme that allowed predetermined companies to win tenders financed by foreign funds. Technical specifications were tailored to the products of a specific supplier, resulting in materials and equipment being purchased at inflated prices. The preliminary damage to the state budget and foreign funding allocated for infrastructure projects is estimated at 14.54 million lei. As of now, three suspects have been detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC detention center; seven others are being investigated as suspects and remain at large. The investigation is ongoing. // July 22, 2026 – InfoMarket.
