In general, since the beginning of this year it has increased by 2 billion 444.3 million lei (+6.2%). The previous record maximum of domestic public debt was recorded in February 2024, when it amounted to 40 billion 546.7 million lei. According to the Ministry of Finance, the growth of domestic public debt in January-March 2024 was mainly due to an increase in the issue of government securities on the primary market by approximately 2 billion 443.4 million lei. In particular, as of the end of March 2024, the debt on government securities issued on the primary market amounted to about 28 billion 224.85 million lei, which is 2 billion 443.36 million lei (9.5%) more than at the end of 2023 (25 billion 781.49 million lei), and its share accounted for 67% of the total domestic public debt. At the same time, the debt on bonds issued for the fulfillment by the Ministry of Finance of payment obligations arising from state guarantees dated November 17, 2014 and April 1, 2015, at the end of March 2024 amounted to 11 billion 751.2 million lei, unchanged, compared to the situation at the end of 2023 (11 billion 751.2 million lei). Its share accounted for 27.9% of the total amount of Moldova’s internal public debt at the end of March 2024. Herewith, the debt on converted government securities at the end of March 2024 amounted to 2 billion 134.35 million lei, an increase of 0.92 million lei (+0.04%), compared with the situation at the end of 2023 (2 billion 133.43 million), and amounting to 5.1% of the total amount of domestic public debt at the end of March 2024. According to the Ministry of Finance, in January- March 2024, the weighted average interest rate on government securities sold at auctions amounted to 4.75%, which is less by 3.87 percentage points compared to 2023. By type of securities, the yield was: government securities-91 days - 2.36%, GS-182 days – 4.59%, GS-364 days – 5.05%, GB-2 years – 5.5%, GB-3 years – 5.7%, GB-5 years – 5 .8%, GB-7 years - 5.52%.
