
The Moldova-Romania Economic Forum will be held in Bucharest on April 9.
As reported by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova, this event will take place on the sidelines of the 12th meeting of the Moldovan-Romanian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. The forum will be chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization of Moldova, Dumitru Alaiba, and the Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Romania, Stefan-Radu Oprea. During the event, representatives of the relevant economic commissions of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies of Romania, heads of investment agencies of Moldova and Romania, presidents of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, and the head of the Association of Romanian Investors in Moldova will speak. The parties, among other things, will discuss best practices in bilateral trade in the context of Moldova’s progressive integration into the EU internal market. The Moldova-Romania Economic Forum will include presentations of investment opportunities, thematic discussions on current business trends and a B2B session. As noted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova, the Moldova-Romania Economic Forum represents a basis for dialogue and cooperation between the business environments of the two countries, offering opportunities to explore investment potential and identify trade partnerships in an environment conducive to the exchange of ideas and experience. Businessmen from Moldova are invited to take part in this forum and join the delegation of businessmen from the Republic of Moldova to establish partnerships and begin discussions with representatives of Romanian business from different fields. As previously reported by the InfoMarket agency, the volume of Moldovan exports to Romania in 2023 amounted to $1 billion 420.8 million, an increase of 14.5% compared to 2022. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the share of supplies of domestic goods to Romania in general volume of Moldovan exports increased over the specified period from 28.64% to 35.09%. At the same time, the volume of imports from Romania in January-December 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, decreased by 21.1% - to $1 billion 300 million, and its share in total Moldovan imports decreased from 17.87% to 14.99%. As a result, the positive trade balance between Moldova and Romania in 2023 amounted to $120.8 million against a negative balance of $406.7 million a year earlier. At the end of 2023, Romania was Moldova’s largest trading partner in exports, having purchased the most Moldovan products in the specified period in monetary terms.
