According to the NBM, the external debt of the public sector and state-guaranteed debt increased by $556.91 million (+17.1%) in January-December 2023, from $3 billion 263.61 million (end-2022) to $3 billion 820.52 million (end-2023), accounting for 36.5% of the total debt. At the same time, non-guaranteed private sector debt increased by $315.42 million (+5%) over the same period - from $6 billion 329.71 million to $6 billion 645.13 million and amounted to 63.5% of the total debt. The overall growth of Moldova's external debt in 2023 was due to an increase in the debt of the public administration sector by 18.2% - from $3 billion 172.85 million (as of end-2022) to $3 billion 751.24 million (as of end-2023). ), commercial bank debt - by 1.5% - from $505 million to $512.73 million, debt under "Other Sectors" - by 7.1% - from $3 billion 978.57 million to $4 billion 262.63 million, and debt under "Direct Investments: Inter-Branch Lending" - by 0.5% - from $1 billion 872.92 million to $1 billion 882.47 million.
