The EU will allocate Moldova an additional 40 million euros from the European Peace Facility to support the country's defense capabilities.
The European External Action Service said the decision was made by the Foreign Affairs Council after discussing the situation in Moldova and agreeing on new specific measures to support the country. No other details are given. Earlier it was reported that the EU intends to allocate to Moldova a new package of military assistance worth 40 million euros, in the framework of which a long-range detection radar will be purchased. As reported by the Brussels portal EUobserver, citing a memorandum of March 13, the EU will spend another 40 million euros to help Moldova, with most of the money to be spent on "ground mobile radar long-range surveillance," which will help our country control its airspace. The rest will be spent on "highly mobile light tactical vehicles and pickups," "forklift trucks, buses and trucks," communications equipment, and software to protect against hacker attacks. The money will come from the European Peace Facility, which has mainly helped with arms deliveries to Ukraine since the war began. The Fund's volume is about 8 billion euros. Earlier, Moldovan Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii said that the country wants to strengthen the ability to monitor its airspace. He specified that Moldova can be helped in this by its partners. Anatolie Nosatii added that earlier this subject was not paid enough attention to, due to the lack of the need to develop such technologies and the high costs of doing this. // 25.04.2023 - InfoMarket.
