Poland is among the biggest investors in Moldova with $70 million in investments.
Deputy Director of the Investment Agency Ion Iordachi said this at a Moldovan-Polish business forum organized in Chisinau in the run-up to the visit of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. While opening the forum, Ion Iordachi said that Moldova and Poland have a longstanding cooperation relationship and the countries annually increase trade exchanges. Thus, in 2022, the volume of bilateral trade amounted to $425 million, up 14 percent compared to the previous year. Import of Polish goods to Moldova increased 13%, and Moldovan export increased 12%. Moldovan goods most in demand in Poland are wines and agri-food products, while Moldova imports technology, chemical products and household appliances from Poland. He emphasized that Poland is one of the biggest investors in Moldova, with about $70 million, and the most attractive branches for investments are finance, construction and agri-food. At the same time, he said, despite the positive dynamics, there is still a big untapped potential for the development and expansion of bilateral relations. A representative of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, Zdzisław Sokal, said that during the two days since the delegation of Polish business people are in Moldova, they visited companies in the energy sector, meat-processing factories, the state railroad company Railways of Moldova (CFM). According to him, during the current visit of the Polish delegation it is planned to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Investment Agency, CFM and the Polish manufacturer of equipment and services for the railway sector. The memorandum of understanding will be the second of its kind. The first one was signed in November, during the Poland-Moldova digital forum. At the opening of the forum, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea also spoke, calling on Polish investors to consider the potential of the Moldovan agri-food sector. He said that today the agri-food sector accounts for about 45% of the country's exports and contributes 24% of GDP, which is a very low indicator. Vladimir Bolea believes it is necessary to promote Moldova as a producer of raw materials for processing. He also spoke about the successful experience of the wine sector, which has transformed from a large wine producer in terms of quantity into a large producer in terms of value. Today Moldovan wines are ranked 14th in the world by production volume and Moldovan wines annually win medals at prestigious wine contests. The Moldovan-Polish business forum is organized by the Polish Investment Agency in partnership with the Embassy of Poland in Moldova and the Investment Agency of Moldova. // 05.04.2023 - InfoMarket.
