Such preliminary data of the country's total debt was published by the National Bank of Moldova in the Balance of Payments for last year, noting that, at the same time, in relation to the country's gross domestic product, the country's total debt at the end of 2022 amounted to 65.6%, an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to the situation at the end of 2021. According to the NBM, the external debt of the public sector and state-guaranteed debt in 2022 increased by $532.61 million (+19.5%) - from $2 billion 731 million (by end of 2021) to $3 billion 263.61 million (at the end of 2022), amounting to 34.5% of the total debt. Herewith, non-guaranteed debt of the private sector increased over the same period by $166.94 million (+2.8%) - from $6 billion 027.25 million to $6 billion 194.19 million, and amounted to 65.5% of the total debt amounts. The overall growth of Moldova's external debt in 2022 was due to an increase in public sector debt by 21.7% - from $2 billion 606.58 million (at the end of 2021) to $3 billion 172.85 million (at the end of 2022), commercial banks - by 47.4% - from $342.66 million to $505 million, as well as debt under the section "Other sectors" - by 0.6% - from $3 billion 795.47 million to $3 billion 817.05 million. Meanwhile, the debt of the National Bank on IMF loans decreased by 30.8% - from $92.39 million to $63.98 million, and the debt under the section "Direct investments: inter-branch lending" decreased by 1.2% - from $1 billion 921.15 million to $1 billion 898.92 million. Long-term external debt at the end of 2022 amounted to $6 billion 842.99 million, an increase of 9.3% compared to the situation at the end of 2021, when it was $6 billion 261.51 million.
