
The EBRD and the EU will allocate 32 million euros for the restoration of railway infrastructure on the section Valcinet-Ocnita-Balti-Ungheni-Chisinau-Cainari.
This was reported at a meeting held by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija with the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Moldova Angela Sax. The parties discussed the rehabilitation of the national roads in Moldova and EBRD assistance. The meeting focused on investment projects for the restoration of roads, financed by the EBRD, and on projects for modernization of the railway infrastructure through the mechanism "European Solidarity lanes". Liliia Dabija expressed her gratitude for the EBRD's assistance in the rehabilitation of important strategic road infrastructure in our country. "Investments in road rehabilitation are largely due to the support of our external partners. We are grateful for the EBRD's support in rehabilitating the Soroca-Arionesti-Otaci section, the R34 Hincesti-Leova and Leova-Cantemir roads, as well as the bypass road in the Slobozia Mare village", she said. The officials also discussed the possibility of signing new agreements and financing new infrastructure projects. The officials discussed the signing of loan and grant agreements, worth 32 million euros in all (first stage), between the EBRD, the European Commission and Moldova, in order to restore the railway infrastructure in the corridor Valcinet-Ocnita-Balti-Ungheni-Chisinau-Cainari. Angela Sax expressed confidence that in the future, as many projects with EBRD's support will be implemented in Moldova as before. She also expressed satisfaction with progress made in rehabilitation of road infrastructure in Moldova thanks to EBRD loans.
