Inflation rate in Moldova was 30.24% in 2022 as compared to 13.94% the year before.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), from January to December 2022, foodstuff went up by 31.8%, non-foodstuff - by 19.9%, services provided to the population - by 44%. As noted by the NBS, as a result of the slower growth of monthly inflation in December 2022 (0.8%) compared to the monthly inflation rate in December 2021 (1.7%), the annual inflation rate in December 2022 (30.24%) decreased by 1.2 p.p. compared to November 2022 against November 2021 (31.4%). Thus, there was recorded a further decline in annual inflation, noted in November 2022. According to the NBS, in 2022, more pronounced growth in prices was observed for the following food products: eggs - 59.1%, vegetables - 56.1%, sugar - 55.7%, fruit - 48.8%, bakery products and cereals - 37%, milk and dairy products, meat and canned meat - 21%, vegetable oil - 8.3%. The increase in consumer prices for non-food products in 2022 was mainly due to the increase in prices for fuel and lubricants - by 35.9% (including: coal - 2.1 times higher, briquettes and pellets from biomass - 2 times higher, firewood and diesel fuel - 36.7% and 36.3%, respectively, LPG in cylinders - 25%, gasoline - 21.3%), materials for home maintenance and repair - 25.8%, shoes and clothing - 14.2% and 12.4%, respectively. As for services provided to the population, the NBS notes that in 2022 the prices of energy services have increased significantly (power supply - 2.7 times, natural gas supply - 1.8 times). At the same time the prices of passenger transport services increased by 63.4% and public catering services by 26%. The NBS stresses that the government's provision of compensations for energy bills for household consumers (natural gas, electricity and heat) contributed to mitigating the annual increase in average consumer prices by 2.6%. // 11.01.2023 - InfoMarket.
