Over 41.6% of the active enterprises in Moldova operated in the trade sphere in 2021.
This is stated in the study of the demography of enterprises (which submitted statistical or financial reports to the NBS) prepared by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in 2021. According to the NBS, the study covered 52.5 thousand enterprises reporting last year, of which 38.3 thousand (73 %) are active. In 2021, 5.3 thousand enterprises were created and 5.5 thousand enterprises were liquidated. More than 61% of operating enterprises are aged 7 years and older. Most of the operating enterprises in 2021 operated in the field of trade - 15.9 thousand enterprises (41.6% of the total number of operating enterprises). 10.2% of active enterprises in Moldova operated in the field of professional and scientific and technical activities, 9.7% of all active enterprises in the processing industry, 7.5% in real estate transactions, 7.3% in construction, transport and warehousing - 6.8%, in the ICT industry - 5.6%, in other areas - 11.3%. In 2021, about 92.7% of operating enterprises in Moldova were enterprises with a private form of ownership, 3.8% - foreign enterprises, 2% - enterprises with a mixed form of ownership, 0.6% - state-owned enterprises. According to statistics, foreign enterprises have the lowest survival rate during the year after registration (the ratio of registered enterprises in 2020 and operating in 2021 compared to the number created in 2020) - 36.7%, while this figure for mixed enterprises is 53.7%, for state-owned enterprises - 42.9%, for private companies - 48.2%. In general, the country has the largest number of enterprises in the municipality of Chisinau - 23.9 thousand, of which 69.5% are operating. At the same time, in 2021, 2.9 thousand new enterprises were created in Chisinau, 1 thousand in the Central development region, 0.8 thousand in the Northern one, 0.4 thousand in the Southern one and 0.2 thousand in the ATU Gagauzia. At the same time, during the reporting period, 3 thousand enterprises were liquidated in Chisinau municipality, 1.1 thousand in the Central development region, 0.6 thousand in the Northern one, 0.4 thousand in the Southern one and in the ATO Gagauzia - 0.3 thousand. According to the NBS, on average 47.7% of registered enterprises operate in the country for more than one year, while in Chisinau municipality this figure was 54.8% (the highest indicator), and in the Southern development region - 31.2% (the lowest rate).
