
Moldova's GDP in January-September 2022 amounted to 197.8 billion lei, declining in real terms by 4.1% compared to the same period in 2021.
This was reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, noting that, in particular, in the III quarter of 2022, the gross domestic product amounted to 77.2 billion lei at current market prices and decreased in real terms by 10.3% compared to the III quarter of 2021 year, with seasonally adjusted GDP, it decreased by 11.8%. According to the NBS, the following economic activities contributed to the decline in GDP in January-September 2022 compared to the same period in 2021: Agriculture, forestry and fisheries (caused a 1.5% decline in GDP), with a share in 8.6% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in gross value added (GVA) by 17.1%; Construction (-1.1%), with a share of 6.9% in the formation of GDP and a reduction in GVA by 13.7%; Real estate transactions (contributed to a decrease in GDP by 0.8%), with a share of 6.5% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in GVA by 10.6%; Processing industry (-0.7%), with a share of 9.4% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in GVA by 7.7%; Production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-0.2%), with a share in the formation of GDP of 2.7% and a decrease in GVA by 10.9%. At the same time, the following types of activities had a positive impact on the evolution of GDP in this period: Financial activities and insurance (contributed to GDP growth by 0.4%) with a 3.1% share in GDP formation and GVA growth by 14%; Wholesale and retail trade; maintenance and repair of vehicles and motorcycles (+0.4%) with a share of 16.8% in the formation of GDP and an increase in gross value added (GVA) by 2.8%; Health care and social assistance (+0.2%) with a 5% share in the formation of GDP and GVA growth by 4.7%; Information and communication (+0.2%) with a 6% share in the formation of GDP and an increase in GVA for the relevant types of activities by 3.2%; Accommodation and catering activities (+0.2%) with a share of 1.1% in the formation of GDP and an increase in GVA for the relevant types of activities by 18.6%. According to the NBS, net taxes on products with a share of 14% in the formation of GDP contributed to a decrease in GDP by 0.6%, and their volume decreased by 4.4%. The decline in GDP in January-September 2022 was mainly due to: Household final consumption (-1.8%), the volume of which decreased by 2.2%, amounting to 83.6% of GDP; gross fixed capital formation (-1.5%), with a share of 23% in the formation of GDP and a decrease of 6.2%; net export of goods and services, which led to a decline in GDP by 0.7%. Herewith, a positive contribution to the index of physical volume of GDP was made by: Final consumption of the general government sector (+0.8%), the volume of which increased by 4.8%, amounting to 17% of GDP; Final consumption of non-profit institutions serving households (+0.1%), which increased by 5.1%, amounting to 1.2% of GDP. As InfoMarket agency previously reported, as part of a new forecast of macroeconomic indicators agreed with IMF experts, the Moldovan government expects a 3% decline in GDP in 2022, to 278.2 billion lei. Meanwhile, the IMF predicts that the real GDP of Moldova in 2022 will decrease by 1.5%.
