
More than 30% of young people aged 15-34 are not employed and are not involved in the educational process, while the number of young people in the country is declining every year.
Such data on the situation of young people in the labor market was reported by the National Bureau of Statistics. According to statistics, only 4 out of 10 young people are employed in the labor market, 6 out of 10 are inactive. In particular, in 2021, 244 thousand people (37.3% of the population aged 15-34) were employed, and 2% (11 thousand) - were unemployed. Most (61%) - 398 thousand young people were economically inactive, of which 42% are involved in the national education system. Herewith, more than 4% of employed young people were studying at the same time, and every fourth had an informal job. The unemployment rate among young people is higher than the national average (3.2%), and at the end of 2021 amounted to 4.1%: in the age group 15-24 years old - 9.2%, 15-29 years old - 5.7%. Among unemployed young people, more than half were men (69.1%) and urban residents (52.8%). According to the NBS, the lower the level of education of young people, the higher the unemployment rate. The main sources of income for young people (14-34 years old) were, on average, financial assistance from parents (33.2%) and wages (32.1%), as well as social benefits (9.9%), individual agricultural activities (7.2%), money transfers from abroad (6.3). Meanwhile, at the age of 14-19 years, the dominant source of income for young people (74.6%) is the help of parents, and at the age of 30-34 years - salary (55.4%). As of January 1, 2022, the population of Moldova amounted to 2 million 603.8 thousand people, of which 670.9 thousand (25.8%) are young people aged 14 to 34 years. About 49.3% of youth are women and 50.7% are men. Over the year, the number of young people in the country decreased by 1.4%, and over the past 5 years, the number of young people aged 14-19 has decreased by 3%, aged 20-24 - 26%, aged 25-29 - 20.5%, at the age of 30-34 - 8.9%. Statistics indicate an increase in HIV infections among young people - last year 253 young people were registered with HIV status, which is 18.8% more than a year earlier. The number of people infected with sexually transmitted diseases also increased by 23.1% (932 people, more than 54% of them are men aged 20-29 years). At the same time, the number of malignant tumors in young people decreased from 46.7 cases per 100 thousand young people in 2017 to 28.7 cases in 2021. In this age group, cases of tumors of the lymphoid tissue, thyroid and mammary glands predominate, while malignant formations are more often recorded in women aged 30-34 years. In 2021, the death rate among young people was 120.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. About 42% of youth deaths are the result of accidents, poisonings and injuries (including 2.6% - murders), 12.9% of young people died from diseases of the cardiovascular system, 11% - diseases of the digestive system, cancer - 9.1%, diseases of the respiratory organs - 5.9%, etc. The number of youth criminals has decreased from 7.9 thousand people in 2017 to 6 thousand in 2021, more than 93.6% of them are men.// 15.08.2022 — InfoMarket
