The share of wine in the total export of Moldova has decreased by 5 times since the independence of the country.
These figures are cited by the economic expert IDIS Viitorul Veaceslav Ionita, noting that the record export of wines from Moldova fell in 2005 and amounted to $ 280 million. After that, there were two strong recessions due to the imposition of an embargo by Russia in 2006 and 2013. Export of Moldovan wines fell sharply in 2006-2007 to $ 100 million. Subsequently, the sector began to recover due to the diversification of the sales market (access to the Romanian and Ukrainian markets, and subsequently others) and in 2013 reached $ 150 million. The expert also noted that in 2003-2004 the export of Moldovan wines to the RF accounted for 80%. Now it is only 8% ($ 10 million). Veaceslav Ionita draws attention to the fact that before the introduction of the Russian embargo, the entire export of Moldovan wines was mainly focused on the markets of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, where more than 95% of all Moldovan wines were exported. In 2021, according to the economist, the situation is completely different. Belarus ranks first, where 21% of Moldovan wines are exported, followed by Romania - 12%, Russia - 11.8%, Czech Republic - 8.5%, Poland - 7.8%, China - 7.1%, Georgia - 5.3%, Ukraine - 4.6%, Kazakhstan - 3.5%, Great Britain - 2.6%, other countries - 13.3%. At the same time, the economic analyst claims that wine, which is the emblem of Moldova, unfortunately, has lost the meaning that it once had for the national economy. In 2001-2005 wines accounted for 26% of all Moldovan exports. Every fourth dollar earned came from wine exports. After the first embargo, the share of wine in the country's exports fell to 10%, and now it is only 5%. With regards to pricing policy, the expert noted that in 2000-2006 Moldova sold an average of 1 liter of wine for $ 0.78. From 2007 to the present, after the diversification of the sales market, 1 liter of wine is sold 32% more expensive - for $ 1.03.// 04.10.2021 — InfoMarket
