This was announced by the National Bank of Moldova, noting that, compared to the previous month, the net supply of foreign currency from individuals in January 2022 decreased by $53 million (-27%) - to $143.3 million, while the net demand for currency from legal entities increased by $32 million (+12.8%) - up to $281.9 million. The NBM carried out interventions in the local interbank market in the form of sales of foreign currency for $111.4 million. According to the NBM, in January 2022, the Moldovan leu weakened against the US dollar by an average of 1.1% - to 17.9367 lei per dollar, compared to 17.7378 lei per dollar in December 2021. According to the exchange rates at the end of the month (31.01.2022 against 31.12.2021), the leu depreciated by 1% against the US dollar.
