The foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Moldova in March 2021 decreased by $56.21 million (-1.5%), amounting to $3 billion 707.68 million as of the end of the month.

As noted by the National Bank, the following factors led to a decrease in the NBM official reserve assets in the reporting period: a decrease in exchange rates of currencies included in foreign exchange reserves against the USD: $49.35 million; payments related to servicing the external public debt of Moldova: $21.22 million; interventions in the domestic foreign exchange market in the form of the sale of foreign currency: $9.7 million; net payments attributable to required reserves of licensed banks in foreign currency: $6.81 million; payments by the Ministry of Finance: $3.22 million. At the same time, the following factors contributed to the increase in official reserve assets during the reporting period: the Ministry of Finance received loans and grants for the implementation of investment projects: $32.21 million; net proceeds to the Foreign Aid Programs Management Office: $0.82 million; profit from managing foreign exchange reserves: $0.55 million; revaluation of investment portfolio securities: $0.23 million; other net proceeds: $0.28 million // 08.04.2021 – InfoMarket
