Moldova will become part of the SEPA network – Single Euro Payments Area – in a few days - Anca Dragu
Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) made this announcement while speaking at an event organized to mark the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) and to celebrate Economist Day in Moldova. The event included an international scientific conference entitled “Competitiveness and Innovation in the Knowledge Economy,” which brought together scientists and academics from more than 12 countries, including Romania, Ukraine, Israel, and the United States, in Chisinau. In her opening remarks, the head of the NBM emphasized the role of education and specialists trained at ASEM in transforming the national economy and bringing Moldova closer to the European space. Anca Dragu noted that in a few days Moldova will become part of the SEPA network – the Single Euro Payments Area. According to her, this is a historic step that opens our economy to a market of more than 500 million European citizens and brings direct benefits to people and companies: faster, safer, and significantly cheaper transfers. Anca Dragu emphasized that the National Bank continues to stimulate the digitization of financial services and the development of the capital market so that investments become more accessible and the business environment gains new opportunities for growth. According to her, these transformations are driven not only by technology and regulations, but also by people, many of whom have been trained at ASEM. At the same time, the head of the NBM emphasized the strong partnership between the National Bank and academia, which directly contributes to strengthening financial education in society. "For the National Bank of Moldova, cooperation with academia is a fully conscious responsibility. Together, we have developed financial education projects targeting both young people and society as a whole. The School of Modern Finance, the Financial Education Camp, and the FinanciarELE dialogue platform on women's leadership are just some of the initiatives through which the NBM makes financial knowledge accessible to people and turns it into useful tools for everyday life," said Anca Dragu. The National Bank of Moldova and the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) have confirmed their cooperation by signing a partnership agreement that strengthens their joint commitment to developing financial education and training for new generations of economists through the exchange of knowledge, experience, and the promotion of a sound economic culture. //26.09.2025 – InfoMarket.
