The NBM and the Bank of France will expand their partnership to support the modernization and innovation of Moldova's financial system in the process of joining the European Union
This was discussed during a bilateral meeting between the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Anca Dragu, and the President of the Bank of France, François Villeroy de Galhau, as part of the “New Technologies for Old Markets” international conference organized by the NBM in conjunction with the National Bank of Romania and the Bank of France. According to the NBM, the discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, support for reforms, and Moldova's advancement in the European financial architecture. The meeting highlighted the importance of the partnership between the NBM and the Bank of France, aimed at supporting the modernization and innovation of Moldova's financial system in the process of joining the EU. "We constantly strive to position Moldova as an active participant in the European financial innovation agenda, learning from the experience of other countries and sharing our local experience. Moldova has real prospects of becoming a regional center of ideas and solutions, capable of generating, studying, and implementing original initiatives that contribute to the modernization of our financial system," Anca Dragu emphasized. The NBM Governor added that Moldova needs reliable partners on its European path, and France represents a model of best practice and a valuable benchmark for modernizing and consolidating the country's financial system in line with European standards. In this context, François Villeroy de Galhau stressed that his presence in Chisinau is a powerful signal of support for Moldova's European integration. The head of the Bank of France congratulated Moldova on the launch of instant payments, its accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and the harmonization of its legislation with European standards. His official visit to Moldova, which took place on September 19-20 at the invitation of the NBM Governor Anca Dragu, also included a speech at the international conference “New Technologies for Old Markets.” François Villeroy de Galhau's speech was devoted to the future of European monetary policy. "In an era of profound technological change, central banks must remain pillars of trust and, at the same time, conduits of innovation. By working together, we can turn technological challenges into opportunities and build a more integrated, stable, and innovative financial future for Europe and Moldova. Moldova, like the master Eugen Doga, who created a masterpiece that is part of UNESCO's heritage, is building its future on the basis of a strong cultural identity and modern infrastructure. France and the Bank of France will do everything possible to support you on this path," said the President of the Bank of France. Cooperation between the National Bank of Moldova and the Bank of France was strengthened by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions in Paris on January 17. // 22.09.2025 – InfoMarket.
