NBM is focused on digitalization and innovation and takes measures to develop the payment infrastructure and implement new payment instruments in Moldova.

This was stated by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Octavian Armasu, at the opening of the event "Generation I - we choose financial independence at any age". He noted that today the countries of the world celebrate the World Savings Day and this is an opportunity to continue discussions on financial topics, which are very present in the life of each citizen. The head of the National Bank of Moldova mentioned that along with a very rapid development of financial products and services, it has become common to take financial decisions every day. Simply, some do it consciously and reasonably, while others do it arbitrarily. "The difference is noticeable when we see the results: if we have enough knowledge, the risk of making a mistake or incurring a loss is much lower. That's why financial knowledge has become a natural necessity today in order to have fewer financial worries in a few years," Octavian Armasu said. According to him, in this regard, the "Generation I" project, which was previously launched by the CFA România Association and successfully proved itself in the neighboring country, has also gained followers in Moldova. "The project promotes financial independence and is addressed to all those who wish to achieve it, to reach the third age with some financial security. And this, as we know, not only ensures good living conditions for citizens, but also contributes to the economic development of the country", the NBM Governor emphasized. He noted that more savings means more investments. Investments benefit the family and eventually the economy. A society with a high financial culture really secures its future. Octavian Armasu pointed out that in recent years, even in the difficult conditions of the pandemic, the interest in financial education among children, youth, adults and elderly people has increased significantly. This fact can be seen not only in our country, but all over the world. People are eager to broaden their horizons and financial culture. Thus, public authorities, institutions and private companies, representatives of civil society at the global level are making efforts to help citizens to navigate more easily in the financial sphere. In this context, the National Bank of Moldova is actively involved in the process of financial education. "For several years now we have been helping different groups of people, from kindergarteners to pensioners, to understand what money is and how to make responsible financial decisions. Just to mention a few projects: financial-educational camp for youth held every summer, event "In the World of Money" dedicated to young children, and for teenagers we organize different events within the project "Learn! Give Sense to Money." At the same time, as the coordinator of the financial education process in our country, the National Bank last year began the process of developing a National Financial Education Strategy. "We invited 15 institutions to join us. We have a lot of work to do, but we are confident that we will succeed. I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone, including citizens, for trusting us and participating more and more often in our financial education activities year after year," said the head of the National Bank. // 31.10.2022 – InfoMarket
