This was stated in the report on activities of the Deposit Guarantee Fund in the banking system over the past year, which was heard and taken into account by the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance. According to the report, since the creation of the Fund until the end of the last year, the funds intended for guaranteeing the deposits were accumulated in a total amount of 856.1 million lei. At the same time there were paid guaranteed deposits after revocation of licenses for activity of some banks in a total amount of 50.2 million lei. Thus, the financial means of the Fund intended for guaranteeing deposits at the end of the reporting year amounted to 805.9 million lei, which is 4.55% of the total amount of guaranteed deposits registered in the banking system. In 2021, the Deposit Guarantee Fund in the banking system carried out short-term investments (up to 1 year) in the total amount of 317 million 675.6 thousand lei with an average annual rate of return of 4.37%. In accordance with the Law on rehabilitation of banks and banking resolution, the Deposit Guarantee Fund in the banking system may invest available financial resources in assets with low risk level. It should be noted that all 11 banks licensed by the National Bank of Moldova participate in guaranteeing deposits from individuals and legal entities.
